A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a vital legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you lose the ability to do so yourself. Whether it’s managing your finances or ensuring your health and welfare needs are met, an LPA provides security and peace of mind. At Marley Solicitors, we specialise in assisting individuals in Surrey with setting up LPAs, making the process simple and tailored to your needs.
Why you need a lasting power of attorney
An LPA is essential for safeguarding your future. Without one, if you lose mental capacity, your loved ones may face complex and expensive legal battles to act on your behalf. By setting up an LPA, you ensure that your chosen representatives can step in seamlessly, respecting your wishes when it matters most.
How Marley Solicitors can help
At Marley Solicitors, our expert team is here to guide you every step of the way. We explain the two types of LPAs, Property and Financial Affairs, and Health and Welfare, in clear terms, helping you decide what’s right for you. From drafting the documents to registering them with the Office of the Public Guardian, we handle the details so you don’t have to, delivering a stress-free experience.
LPA statistics: Why it matters
The importance of LPAs is growing across the UK. According to the Office of the Public Guardian, over 3 million LPAs were registered nationwide by 2020, with thousands more added each year. Residents of Surrey are increasingly recognising the need to plan ahead. These numbers underline how essential LPAs have become for protecting individuals and their families.

Costs and registration
Once your LPA is prepared, it must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian to be ready for use. The registration fee is £82.00 per power. If your income is less than £12,000.00 or you receive the guaranteed element of pension credit, you may qualify for a registration fee discount.
Our fees at Marley Solicitors are:
- £450 plus VAT for a single application covering both powers (financial and health).
- £650.00 plus VAT for two people applying for both powers.
We provide transparent pricing and expert support to ensure you get value and clarity throughout the process.
